WHAT TO WEAR TO YOUR BEACH PHOTO SESSION | Oak Island NC Photographer

Here’s a little secret- I’m not really into telling people what to wear for their photo session. It feels less than authentic and more manufactured than I’d like for truly capturing my client’s personality. Believe me, I know first hand what it’s like to have your own style be a part of your identity, plus, who wants to look like everyone else in their photos? Now that being said, in my experience as a photographer, specifically a beach photographer, I’ve seen a lot of different color/style combinations, and I can tell you, some just work better together, in a way that is not distracting in the photos. The beach is light and bright (even when it’s cloudy) and neutral or light colored clothes truly match the setting best. Also, did you know that editing overly bright and flourescent colors can look oversaturated and unnatural in images? When clients book a session with me, I offer them a styling service at no cost that helps them choose clothing that works best for your family. You pick some color combos that you like and just like that, it lays out tons of different options to best suit your taste and to coordinate with the rest of the family. I’m also here for you to bounce ideas off of! So while I’m not here to tell you what to wear, I’m defintely here to help steer you in the right direction when you feel lost and confused about what to wear for your beach photo session1

2022- First Quarter

Whew! Those 1st 3 months of 2022 seem to have gone by in a flash. We clocked a few trips to the beach where we saw little to no progress on the house (until we did, stay tuned for that!) but still soaked up some salty air and ocean breezes, took the polar plunge, played football on the beach and performed endless handstands in the sand. Wilmington, NC has become our go-to overnight stay when going to Oak Island and I truly can’t believe we waited to so long to discover such a gem. We have our new favorite spots there- including the Brooklyn Cafe for the most delicious beignets and banana date balls- and I honestly would make any excuse to take a road trip to this quaint little riverfront city. On the homefront, our family graciously shared Covid amongst each other in late January, but bounced back quickly thank goodness. We got lots of southern snow, took an amazing trip to Snowshoe Mountain, WV with great friends, cheered on our favorite gymnast weekend after weekend, and I also had a birthday thrown in there. I predict that the next quarter will see much less snow, hopefully a more complete beach house, less gymnastics meets and more softball and flag football. And of course sun. And sand. And ocean breezes.
