How to Choose the Right Session
Family Session
A family session is designed for one immediate household (parents and their children living together).
Best for:
Parents with their children
One couple with their kids
Extended Family Session
An extended family session is for groups that include two or more family units or households, even if the total number of people is relatively small.
This often includes:
Parents with adult children and spouses
Grandparents with grandchildren
Multiple sibling families together
Extended family sessions allow time for:
Full group portraits
Each individual family photographed separately
Meaningful combinations (grandparents with grandchildren, siblings together, etc.)
What Is a Family Unit?
A family unit is one household or immediate family grouping.
Examples:
A couple with their children
An adult child and spouse
An adult child, spouse, and their child
Example scenario:
Parents with two adult children, each with a spouse, and one grandchild = 3 family units (extended family session).
Why Extended Family Sessions Are Priced Differently
If your group includes more than one household, an extended family session is the best fit. These sessions allow time for full group portraits as well as individual family groupings, ensuring everyone is beautifully photographed without feeling rushed.
If you’re unsure which session type fits your group, I’m always happy to help you decide before booking.
Picking out outfits for everyone to wear is so stressful! Can you help? Yes! Absolutely! Once you book your session, I start working with you to pick out the best clothing choices for your session. I also send a style guide catered to photography clients to help you choose outfits that you love and that easily coordinate with everyone that will be in the photos. Often times I can help you find items in your closet that will work great in photos too!
Do you offer posed photos as well as lifestyle photos? I love to capture the natural beauty of my subjects and I find the best way to do this is to let the session unfold organically. I will position you in certain locations and give prompts and ideas on what to do, but most often the best photos are the least contrived. I always aim to start our session with a photo of everyone together, but I don’t guarantee images with all family members perfectly positioned looking at the camera and smiling.
What is the turnaround time for receiving images after our session? Turnaround time is 3 weeks. We offer priority editing (3 day turnaround) for an additional charge.
Do you offer mentoring sessions to other photographers? Yes, I do! Please send me a message to discuss mentoring opportunities!
Do you charge a travel fee? Travel is included for locations in Brunswick and New Hanover County. Travel and accommodation fees may apply outside of that area.
